Remembrance Sunday
First Reading - Job 19.23-27a
A reading from the book of Job.
Let this be written down, recorded in a book,
and engraved in stone:
‘I know that my Redeemer lives;
and the day will come
when my Redeemer
will stand upon the earth.
And I know
that when the suffering
of this present age
is ended,
with my own eyes
I shall
see God.’
This is the word of the Lord.
Second Reading - 2 Thessalonians 2.16 - 3.5
A reading from the second letter of Paul
to the Thessalonians.
God our Father,
and our Lord Jesus Christ,
in their great love for us,
have always given us
courage
and joyful confidence
for the future.
May they continue
to strengthen you
in every good word
that you speak,
and in every good work
that you do.
And finally I ask you,
my brothers and sisters,
to pray for us.
Pray
that the word of the Lord
may continue to spread,
and be glorified everywhere,
just as it is
amongst you.
Pray also
that we may be protected
from any who would do us harm;
for not all have faith.
But the Lord is faithful.
And we are confident
that as you continue
in all
that we taught you,
the Lord will strengthen you,
and protect you from all harm,
and lead you on
in the love of God,
and in faithfulness to Christ.

Gospel - Luke 19.41-48
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Luke.
Jesus approached Jerusalem,
surrounded
by the crowds.
And when he saw the city,
he wept, and said,
‘O Jerusalem,
if only
you had seen
and understood
the way of peace!
But the day will come
when your enemies
will surround you on every side!
They will crush you
to the ground -
you,
and your children within you!
Not one stone
will be left
upon another;
because you did not recognise
that the day would come
when God
would call you to account.’
When Jesus entered the city,
and entered
the temple courtyard,
he began to drive out
those who were trading there,
saying to them, ‘The scripture says
“My house shall be a house of prayer” -
but you have made it
a den of thieves!’
Then, every day,
he was teaching
in the temple.
And the chief priests,
the teachers of the law,
and other
leaders of the people,
were looking
for a way to destroy him.
But they could find nothing
that they could do,
because the people were eager
to hear
his every word.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
